SWOT ANALYSIS: TAKEN FROM PREZI:

Strengths:
  • There is a strong brand presence with over 990 Victoria's Secret stores across the world.
  • Victoria's Secret has strong advertising strategies. The company has several top notch models as brand ambassadors which has been a success.
  • Victoria's Secret has created a range of new products with its-brand Pink targeting late teen and college age teens. It has been a great success.

  • The company's current marketing strategy is a success. Victoria's Secret are using all of their social media platforms to promote their brand and products. They are extremely active on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • They also utilise television commercials, rather than just completely relying on those who follow social media. By participating in traditional and digital advertising, they are impacting a larger audience.
  • The company is a well-established brand, Victoria's Secret has already a renowned and famous name in the market.
Weaknesses:
  • Victoria's Secret has several competitors, which means customers have a lot of choices. This brand switching has high sales and brand images are affected by fake products with the same name.
  • They could benefit from a more seamless flow between channels. If their product selection was offered at all locations, the customer would have an easier and more predictable shopping experience.

  • To expand its offering, Victoria's Secret could extend its range of product by foraying into different lines.
  • The company could focus on markets like Asia where it has limited reach.
  • The brand could create online digital dressing rooms to create a greater appeal for their products.
  • Several retail stores could offer guest loyalty programs. When a customer comes in and is drawn to a certain type of product, the sales associate or the store manager can let that customer know when more arrives. Victoria's Secret could benefit from personalising the shopping experience at their store.
Threats:
  • Due to limited resources the company can face serious issued in place of an economic downturn.
  • The highly fragmented fashion industry would mean less brand loyalty.

  • Some threats to the profitability and success of Victoria's Secret could be the current economic situation and their competitors.
  • Also, Victoria's Secret has several competitors to Victoria's Secret include Aerie (American Eagle) and Gilly Hicks (Abercrombie and Fitch). Silly Hicks and Aerie both specialise in lounger, lotions, body products, lingerie and undergarments. (Kerr, 2010) Aerie and Gilly Hicks are both very active in social media as well.

FINAL BRAND POSITIONING MAP

Victoria’s Secret’s top competitors as of January 2019 are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan New York, and all three just like Victoria’s Secret, work in the Systems Software Industry, which is a type of computer programmer that is used to run a computer’s applications. In addition, as found in some primary research that has been conducted of an Instagram Poll. There are also many other brands that are competitors of Victoria’s Secret. For example, Ann Summers, Boux Avenue, Primark and H&M. There are a large amount of competitors that consumers would lean towards rather than Victoria’s Secret because they are cheaper, better quality and have better ethics/morals and therefore customers have more respect for those brands. Even though Victoria’s Secret is a successful business, alternative brands have many features buyers worship that Victoria’s Secret do not have, resulting in a loss of sales for the company.

BRAND POSITIONING MAP

This is my brand positioning map/first attempt of the one I will be submitting; I may add/change some of the brand around once even more research has been conducted. The points I decided to go for in this brand positioning map is 'HIGH PRICE', 'LOW PRICE', 'HIGH QUALITY' AND 'LOW QUALITY'. I believe these are good points as it shows if the price of the products matches up to the quality and portrays whether you actually get for what you pay for. These brands on the map are all of different levels of quality and price and I have placed them according to where I believe they should go.
