PRIMARY RESEARCH: INSTAGRAM POLL

PRIMARY RESEARCH: INSTAGRAM POLL:

I did an Instagram Poll asking questions about Victoria's Secret and opinions on the brand to gather some primary research from the public.

This is the front cover of the Poll, this was so people on the social media platform knew what this project was for:

The first question was 'Do you buy underwear from Victoria's Secret?'
The results were as follows:
Yes: 66%
No: 34%

The second question was "Do you prefer to buy underwear from different brands? If so, where and why?
The results were as follows:
Yes: 61%
No: 39%
Many people replied to the poll to tell me where they preferred to buy their underwear from. A lot of places were named for many reason. For example, Boux Avenue, Calvin Klein, Hollister, Primark, H&M, Ann Summers, Ralph Lauren, Versace, Dolce&Gabanna. There were a lot of reasons why members of the public would prefer to buy their underwear from different brands. Some being because it's cheaper, other companies are more ethical and less problematic, other brands provide for your money, other brands are comfier, other brands are more unique, other brands have more inclusive sizing, some individuals said they Victoria's Secret does not cater for their sizing, quality isn't consistent at VS, for variation in the wardrobe and different styles of underwear work better for different outfits.

The third question was 'Do you think the quality of the products is worth the money?'
The results were as follows:
Yes: 35%
No: 65%

The fourth question was 'Do you think Victoria's Secret includes diversity within the brand?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 15%
No: 85%

The fifth question was 'Do you thin Victoria's Secret is sustainable in any way?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 20%
No: 30%

The sixth question was 'Do you think Victoria's Secret empowers all women?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 13%
No: 87%

The seventh question was 'Do you think that the brand sends out the right message about body image?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 6%
No: 94%

The eighth question was 'Do you think the brand should incorporate more diversity into their models?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 88%
No: 12%

The ninth and final question was 'Do you know about the perfect body campaign?'
The results are as follows:
Yes: 37%
No: 63%

This was the post that showed people that it was the end of the poll.

Conclusion:

Overall, by completing my Instagram Poll, I have found that their are a lot of different opinions in the public eye, however a lot are also the same. The age group that answered my Poll ranged from 16-45 years of age which I believe is a good range in order to get some reliable information, especially because that is pretty much the same as Victoria's Secret's target audience. As a whole, a large amount of people agreed that there were obvious issues and problems with the brand. For example, the lack of diversity, the poor message they send out about body image, the lack of sustainability, the lack of empowerment of ALL women and the fact that the quality of the products is not worth the price. I also found that despite all the issues with the brand that people do feel very passionate about, it does not stop them buying from the brand. The results from my Instagram Poll will really help me when constructing my report as I will know what a big issue to base it around will be.

FINAL BRAND POSITIONING MAP

Victoria’s Secret’s top competitors as of January 2019 are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan New York, and all three just like Victoria’s Secret, work in the Systems Software Industry, which is a type of computer programmer that is used to run a computer’s applications. In addition, as found in some primary research that has been conducted of an Instagram Poll. There are also many other brands that are competitors of Victoria’s Secret. For example, Ann Summers, Boux Avenue, Primark and H&M. There are a large amount of competitors that consumers would lean towards rather than Victoria’s Secret because they are cheaper, better quality and have better ethics/morals and therefore customers have more respect for those brands. Even though Victoria’s Secret is a successful business, alternative brands have many features buyers worship that Victoria’s Secret do not have, resulting in a loss of sales for the company.

BRAND POSITIONING MAP

This is my brand positioning map/first attempt of the one I will be submitting; I may add/change some of the brand around once even more research has been conducted. The points I decided to go for in this brand positioning map is 'HIGH PRICE', 'LOW PRICE', 'HIGH QUALITY' AND 'LOW QUALITY'. I believe these are good points as it shows if the price of the products matches up to the quality and portrays whether you actually get for what you pay for. These brands on the map are all of different levels of quality and price and I have placed them according to where I believe they should go.
